My Grandma’s (almost) Famous Molasses Cookies

Remember that Friends episode where Phoebe was pushing her Grandmas Chocolate Chip Cookies that her Grandma got from a close french friend? Nestile Toolhoose (Nestle Tollhouse)…

My Grandma must have personally spoke with Betty Crocker herself to get these baby’s as they are almost IDENTICAL to those found in the 1955 version of the Better Crocker Cookbook.

Hmmm…

Wherever they came from, who cares. make them.

Now.

Oh, and don’t be afraid of the shortening. Everything in moderation, right?

Molasses Cookies

1 1/2 c Shortening or butter ( all shortening tastes divine!)

2 c Sugar

1/2 c Molasses

2 Eggs

4 c Flour

4 Tsp Baking Soda

2 Tsp Cinnamon

1 Tsp Ground Cloves

1 Tsp Ground Ginger

1 Tsp Salt

1/4 c sugar (for dipping)

Mix wet ingredients. Add in the dry ingredients, mix well. Make sure to scrape bottom of mixing bowl to incorporate all the dry goods. Chill dough for 1 hour. Roll dough into small balls and dip one side into sugar. Place sugar side up onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in oven for 8-10 minutes 375*. Cool on wire rack.

Now, my mother altered the finished product and frosted these bad boys with a browned butter frosting.

But, that is just overkill and way to much for you all to take in at one time. I’ll post that recipe during Frosting Week.

Happy Eating!
